Tale of two Christmas parties.

Our ward Christmas party was a success.

Wayne and I got a great committee together - the VanOrman’s, the Pauls, the Uryans and the Lakes plus Jessica Barlow – and they all handled their assignments with zero micro managing from me!

The theme was “His Hands”– I love a good theme..So hand gingerbread cookies with a topper that said “the Lord loves us and hears and answers our prayers, but it’s usually through another person that he meets our need…be His Hands.”

We had a fun hand craft for the kids making a wreath or a christmas tree, we made cards to go with the donations that everyone brought for the refugees.

We had a board to trace your hand on and sign that you will commit to being His Hands on earth… and then we showed the “His Hands” - Kenneth Cope song and music video of His Hands..  Wayne spoke a little about that also.

We had 10 people from the Refugee families join us.  WAli– the Afghan who has been here the longest, shared his story of working with the Us Military and running many operations, then having to flee the country with his wife and 5 children to the USA to save all of their lives.  Now he has his brother and sister’s families also here- these are the 28 people that we were serving.

Our ward did great with the donations…  After the program, we went outside to the parking lot to enjoy hot cocoa and donuts around fire pits. Many people stayed and visited for a long time.  We decorated the parking lot with Christmas lights too, so it looked really festive.  It was a lot, but it was so worth it.

We love being back in our home ward.

The next night was our Welch Extended Family GRINCH party at Sandy and Clark’s home.

We watched the 22 minute original cartoon of The Grinch.  Wayne gave a mini Sermon at the end that if we work up on Christmas morn and everything was gone we would be OKAy.. because our faith is in our Savior Jesus Christ, not in Santa Claus. He told the story of his family on Christmas 1980 when they ran into the living room and there were no presents, only a picture of Jesus and a wign that said, what do you give Jesus? Later they found out all of the presents were at newlywed Clark and Sandy's home. This Christmas has had a profound effect on all of the Welches.

Plus I used a fun app to turn everyone’s picture into something grinch themed.
