End of School fun

We had a fun time going to end of year things for some of our grand kids.

First we had Sophia's final Center Point Academy show.  She was in a musical review on the big stage and really loved it.  Sophia has found a group of theatre friends that have been a life line for her since she is schooling at home.  She is so glad they moved to Bountiful so she could go to CPT.  Addison is one of her instructors...he does the choreography for 7th and 8th graders.

Alfie has loved playing Spring Soccer.  He makes a goal almost every game.  He loves to run and run and run.  Alfie had his end of year program at Kaysville elementary and liked most of it except wearing sparkly cat ears.
We got to see some of Tayla's soccer this Spring.  She loves to run..then kick it really soft.  She's a great team member and cheers everyone on.

Tayla is in a Spanish immersion school ) North Davis Prep Academy -- she loves it.  Her end of year program was 1/2 English and 1/2 Spanish and was so fun.  Tayla is the tallest.  She was center back-- that was always my spot in Elementary school cuz I was a tall girl.  Tayla knew every song and movement and helped the other students.

Poppy had a Ballet recital. She loves to dance and twirl.  She's so cute on stage, always watching the little girl next to her to see what's next and if she's doing it right.

Lady and Poppy had their end of year Preschool program.  They did a trick, and said some poems and days of the week and month songs.  Lady knows everything and is first to go as an example to the other kids on how to do it.  Lady wants to be a Baker when she grows up.  Poppy is just happy to be there and wants to be Elsa from Frozen when she grows up.

My Utah Online school finished up as well.  We had our end of year meetings in St. George.  It's a joy working for this school and the best teacher gig out there.  I'm doing something new next year within this school.  I'll be over-servicing our Private Schools and keeping them all happy with programs and computers.  I do this with Marianne Shaheen.  We have 38 private schools and 3,600 students to look out for.

No more Little Women

This is how I ended Little Women... with a mask, sitting in the audience.

Disappointment  is big for me right now.

I’m mourning the loss of Little Women and Marmee.

Covid took me out of my final four performances.

I’ve been praying for a miracle all week. Making deals with God.  Pleading in earnest for this Covid to go away and let me have a final show.

Then I feel embarrassed.

I think how trivial this is with where God is really needed right now with the people of  Ukraine and SCOTUS decisions and abuse victims and poor, starving children… the list is endless...

Then I’m just sad again.  Three positive covid tests later, and I'm still out!

Wanting to do this show, any show- wanting to perform always has ego attached.  I want people to applaud and tell me I’ve done a good job.  I love being on stage and all that goes with it.  So I miss this when I’m not in a show.  (I need Wayne and my family to clap for me when I go in or out of a room- and they don’t).

I feel like I’m letting people down who bought tickets to see me.

I feel sad I don't get to share in the backstage camaraderie.

This show is really unusual in that we all feel so much a part of telling this beautiful story.  At the end of the show we are all on the same side of the stage and we wait in the dark for Jo and Professor Baer        ( Lindsea and Josh) to step through the final curtain.  We clap for them and ourselves and then go in for a big group hug, tell each other how lucky we are to be able to do this show.....and get ready to go out for bows.

Anyway... it all ended so anti climactically.  Covid sucks.  I avoided it for over two years and two months..and then it attacks in a most inconvenient time.

If I started Little Women and was told I would get to perform 10 of the 16 shows I would be okay with that. Happy to be involved.  And that’s what happened.

Still, right now I'm feeling disappointed, and stuffy and head achey and tired of blowing my nose.

On a lighter note, all the women in the cast crochet or knit and we all made seven squares  that represented something from the show or people/characters int eh show and then crocheted it all together into a big blanket for Jim Christian as a thanks for directing gift.    He loved it.

Mother's Day 2022

I had a good Mother's Day.  Flowers from Wayne... and a new dress from me.

Church - where the speakers actually spoke about mother's and the good and hard of Mother's Day.

Choir practice which I'm loving since I didn't have a choir for many years because of YSA ward.

A nap.

Watched two episodes of  "Call the Midwife"- I love the show and you get to see at least one baby born each time.

Face timed with Laila and Markus.

Then to Landon's home with him, Truman and the Monson Welches for dinner of ribs- which Wayne spent all day Saturday getting just right.   We played Canasta and laughed a lot.

I got my "obligatory" picture with each of my kids, bonus kids and grandkids.  Alex actually stopped on his way to the airport knowing how important this is to me.

Then off to visit Grandma Welch.

I miss my mom.  May is always all about her...Birthday May 9m death day May 21, throw Mother's day and Memorial day in the mix and it's a SHERI month for sure.  I'm starting my 13 days of Sharing Sheri- 13 days of Random acts of kindness in her name.

My original Fab Five.

Hayden Call is getting married.

Hayden Call is getting married and we are thrilled for him!!!

He did it just like his two brothers.  He decided 2021 was the year he was going to focus all his energies into dating and to find a wife.   He got on mutual and  it worked!    Laura is an English teacher at Farmington High School.  We have many instances where family paths have crossed.... She and her mom lived in Grandma Mary Call's ward.  The Blake Bentley kids and the Rob and Tami Madsen kids all had Laura's mom for their elementary teacher.  Alex Madsen even collected bugs for Laura's bug collection to pass a college course.

We had a big family shower to celebrate.  Laura Simonsen is perfect for him.  they met online and we will be attending all of the festivities in June!

Broken foot

 Well my foot is broken!

On our first dress rehearsal 2 weeks ago.. I ran on stage to break up the Jo and Amy fight after Amy burns Jo's manuscript in the fire and I tripped on my too long slip and got tangled up in my hoop skirt and went down face first taking out another actress and landing on my rig cage.

Ouch.  I jumped up and kept going.  I don't want to appear as the OLD Marmee.  Finished the scene and then once off stage I took stock.  My knees were skinned and bleeding, my rib cage hurt under my right breast and my right foot was swelling up.  My toes still worked and my ankle was fine...but. my foot!  yikes.

I hoped for the next two weeks that the swelling would go down and the pain would go away..and the costumer hemmed up the too long stuff and got me really good Clark $100 shoes to wear.  I'm still hobbling...so I went to the Doctor on Monday and got an x ray.

Not good

My 5th metatarsal is messed up!!   But good news no surgery.  I'm in a boot for 6 weeks.  But I will be finishing out the next two weekends of my Little Women show!!  (We've gotten really good reviews and everyone is very touched by this show )

What a relief!!

Now I'm on the mend.  I'm sad about the no walking for the next 6 weeks.. Walking with Si and others is my therapy.  It's so good for my head.  So now I'm turning to food therapy.  It's my old go to.
