Sandwiches on the beach

We are at bear lake this week. 51 years.

When I was growing up and my kids growing up -my mom always set up a sandwich shop on the beach during lunchtime and made everybody sandwiches. Sometimes they were so sandy because we were at the beach.

She would put it in your hand and say, “Do not set this down. Eat the whole thing at once or it will be yucky.”  And she was right 100% of the time.  When you set it down it was done for!

I have fond memories and my kids have some not so fond memories of eating sandwiches on the beach.  So now my kids and their cousins are sitting around Bear Lake talking about things that they’re never gonna do as adults to their kids at bear lake-- like shakes every night, not just one time a week, mini gold every day, not just one time a week and no more sandwiches on the beach!  They don't want that tradition they want to go to LeBeaus or Zips.  Or they want to walk back to the condo and make food so it’s not so sandy.

But I wanted to appreciate Mom‘s way.  They didn’t have much money after spending all the money to get these condos then after that, there was no way that they could take the whole crew out to lunch or gather the whole crew back in the condo— We were always more than 10 people in the condo. It was just too crazy to do that as well so….my mom made an event out of the whole lunch idea. She set up a sandwich shop and she would take your order.  She had all sorts of things down there peanut butter, and jelly and honey and tuna fish and ham, pickles, Turkey and cheese.  She made an event out of it—As she did most everything.

I have a sweet memory of sandwiches on the beach.
