Things Change

I’m standing in my kitchen making holiday cookies- shaking my head.  Last year at this time, moving wasn’t even a thought that crossed my mind and now I live in Layton, on a new street, in a new house, with new neighbors.  Weird.

Moving has been good and hard for me.  Making new friends and breaking into the ward is a challenge..but a friendly challenge.  I enjoy it when people in the ward brag that it’s the “best” ward!  That gives me hope.  I like learning about people’s stories and histories about kids grown and gone and how things used to be and sharing their hopes for today, next week, and beyond. It’s just a slow process.

Sometimes when I wake up and think I just want to go for a walk… and all of my walking buddies are in Bountiful. I walk alone…again.  So now, I’m working on a new walking buddy in Layton.  So far, Bonnie Benedict and I  are trying to get together 2 mornings a week.

My kitchen is so different.  It’s smaller— not as much countertop space or cupboard space— but I do have a step-in pantry.   We are still working on our basement so when the family comes over we have space to send the kids. I do love our big gathering space- and master on the main.

I want a “can I borrow a cup of sugar” type of neighbor.  Working on this.  We keep taking chocolate chip cookies and Wayne’s sourdough bread around— kill them with kindness and baked goods is our motto.  Hopefully, we will start to make a dent.

The more things change the more they stay the same.  Yes I’m in Layton.. but I’m still with my Wayne, my house is still decorated for Christmas with a tall rainbow-ornamented Christmas tree.   I’m still baking from tried and true recipes that I love.  I still have friends to call on and family around.  I still have snow falling outside and Christmas music playing. Things have changed and stayed the same.
