Bees and the Ford House

Well… We had lunch at the F.O.R.D. house. Four of the guys in our branch who go by Four Old Retired Dudes.   Wade, Tom, John, and Dutch invited all the branch leadership for a Dutch oven and rib feast up in Brigham City.  Dutch is called Dutch because he used to do a Dutch oven Cowboy poetry business.   Dutch fed us, then recited two spoonerisms… he’s a treasure.  It was great to see all they got going on with their garden, chicken coop, wood workshop, and a man cave with a bed…just in case you want to sleep outside.  I loved standing in the garden and shelling and eating fresh peas….reminded me of my dad.

Wayne got some hives he needed to put together so he could split what’s happening up in Mendon…but he put it together outside and left it on our table and some Layton bees moved in… so Wayne set that up for real over by the fence on the North back yard, and Bees are loving it…and so is Wayne.  So now he has bees in two places.  He’s becoming a bee expert.

Wayne’s back yard beehive is doing better than his Mendon beehive– the Mendon one- the queen isn’t doing a great job at laying eggs, so it’s progressing more slowly.  Out Layton hive is thriving.  We had a bee expert over to check it out and he’s amazed how well we are doing after just 3 weeks.  Our queen is awesome!  A bee's life is about 4-6 weeks- a queen bee's life is 2- 5 years.  The queen has to lay a lot of eggs to replenish the hive when the workers bees die out.
